How Positively Do You Rate Yourself in Business?

Have you ever noticed when you’re in the presence of positive business people, you start to…

feel more positive about your business yourself?  When you’re having a social event with close friends, you can come away feeling really relaxed and a real sense of ‘inner calm’.

So we know that positive people, both personal friends and business associates, make us feel good.  They give us increased energy. They make us happy. They make us enthusiastic. They can give us inner drive.

On the flip side, however, we also know that negative people can grind us down, and drain our energy levels – literally tire us out with their words and actions.

We all have choices in our lives.  So it may make a bit of sense to make the choices on who we decide to associate with.  Who are the ‘right’ people to positively influence your day? They are life’s winners and people that make you feel good and empowered.

Here’s an excerpt from a recent article:

“If you’re spending time with people who don’t support your dreams and goals, it’s seriously time to look at whom you call your friends!
Successful people surround themselves with successful people.  Plain and simple.  They want to be around others who’re achieving goals and making things happen. They want to know their secrets and strategies for winning. They’re not embarrassed to be hanging out with people who are studying for success and making good money.”

One of the differences between people who have highly successful and happy business lives is that they are very selective about who they associate with both on a personal and professional basis.  This means that they choose who to have lunch with – if they receive an offer and it doesn’t intuitively feel ‘right’ then they will turn the invitation down.  If they end up involved in a conversation or meeting where people are moaning and complaining about their business or life in general, they will switch off and / or make an excuse to leave.

Why?  Because it’s so easy for negative people to work out what’s wrong with something.  It’s so easy to decide why something won’t work.  To tear someone else down.  These people are going nowhere, they just waste energy.  If you associate with people who are going nowhere, where do you end up going yourself?  When coaching business owners I am sometimes curious who their role models are in their personal and also their business lives.  Here’s why:  If you model yourself on positive people (people you would love to aspire to) it has been proven that you are going to automatically up your game and vice versa.  It all sounds too simple doesn’t it?  And yet, it’s nearly always the most simple ideas that are the most effective.

So think about the people that are currently in your life socially and professionally.  Who are the ones that drain you and who are the ones that really make you feel empowered?  Do you have negative clients that give you regular headaches?  Are you putting up with negativity in your life just to be polite?

As you cut negativity out of your life I promise that you will notice some interesting things start to happen.  Positive people stick closely together.  They feed off each other.  They have like minded goals.  They bounce ideas. They meet for lunch and play sports together.  They get more out of life.  That’s not saying that they don’t have the same problems as negative people.  They do.  However, they do have a different perception on life’s challenges than negative people.  They also approach life’s problems from a position of power rather than a position of defeat.

So life’s a choice. Who are your role models? What and who are the positive / negative factors in your life right now? What choices do you need to make?

To Your Success,

Mike
